The Barcelona Fire Department responded to extinguish a fire caused by the explosion of a butane cylinder in an apartment building located on Venero Street, in the Sant Martí district. The incident occurred on May 12, 2026.
As a result of the explosion, one person sustained serious injuries and another less serious, with both being transferred to Vall d'Hebron Hospital. Among the injured, there is a minor. Additionally, seven other individuals suffered minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.
Authorities proceeded with the evacuation of the affected building. Civil Protection activated the Procicat plan in pre-alert phase to manage the emergency. To address the situation, nine ambulances from the Medical Emergency Service (SEM) and ten units from the Barcelona Fire Department were mobilized.
