The central library of Badalona, Can Casacuberta, remains closed after nearly six years, forcing the Canyadó-Casagemes Joan Argenté library to manage a volume of users far exceeding its usual capacity.

The Can Casacuberta Library, considered the central library of Badalona, has been closed for nearly six years, despite constant reopening announcements by the City Council. The last public commitment, made last November by the deputy mayor, set the reopening 'around Christmas,' a timeline that was ultimately not met.

The new delay is due to the appearance of new leaks on the roof of the building, where work is currently underway.

During the last municipal plenary session, the mayor of Badalona, Xavier Garcia Albiol, explained that the new postponement is due to structural issues. Attention is now focused on a possible opening during the upcoming month of March, although no official date has yet been confirmed.
This situation has strained the library network, especially the Canyadó-Casagemes Joan Argenté Library, which has absorbed a large number of regular users. Data from 2024 shows that the facility recorded over 90,000 visits, significantly above the annual average of 75,000, highlighting the additional pressure on the service.
