Following a May that was already recorded as the hottest ever experienced in Catalonia, and a first week of June marked by precipitation, the weather in the autonomous community is once again undergoing drastic changes. Starting this Friday, a return to good weather and a progressive increase in temperatures are anticipated.
According to forecasts from the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat), this Thursday will still see cool conditions, with maximum temperatures not exceeding 30°C and minimums below 20°C. However, the rainy spell has practically ended.
From this weekend onwards, thermometers will once again register summer-like values, surpassing 30°C in most of the Catalan territory. For the week of June 15th to 21st, according to the Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (Aemet), the hot spell is expected to continue, albeit with slightly lower temperatures than the previous weekend, but still above normal. Scattered rainfall cannot be ruled out, particularly in the north of the community.
During the fourth week of June (22nd to 28th), high temperatures are predicted to persist, increasing the likelihood of thunderstorms in the interior. However, Aemet emphasizes that this forecast carries considerable uncertainty and may vary.
Long-term forecasts from meteorological services indicate a summer quarter hotter than average in Catalonia, with a predominance of intense heat episodes. The probability of a very hot summer is estimated at 60%, while the probability of it being rainy stands at 50%. This could translate to more storms than usual, but not necessarily significantly more rainfall.
Meteocat maps show a warmer and simultaneously wetter trend for June, with a high average monthly precipitation in the northeastern third of Catalonia. For the rest of the summer, maps anticipate particularly rainy weeks, with the exception of July, which is expected to be drier.
