Catalonia Leads European Fund Reception with Over 10 Billion Euros

The Generalitat has mobilized nearly 80% of the Next Generation funds received for various key areas.

Catalonia leads the reception of Next Generation European funds allocated to autonomous communities, accumulating 10.18 billion euros since 2021, according to data from the Ministry of Economy.

The Government of Catalonia has received a total of 10.18 billion euros from the Next Generation European funds since their launch in 2021. This figure, announced by President Salvador Illa during an event at the Palau de Pedralbes, highlights the impact of these resources on the region's economic, social, and environmental transformation, contributing to growth.
Of the 4.076 billion allocated to Catalonia through sectoral conferences, the Generalitat had published calls and tenders worth 4.170 billion by March 31. Currently, 3.241 billion have been committed, representing 78% of the total published, according to data from the Catalan executive.
The Department of Territory, Housing, and Ecological Transition has received the most funds through this channel, with 1.937.8 billion euros (47.5%). It is followed by Education and Vocational Training, with 562.7 million (13.8%), and Business and Labour, with 516.2 million (12.7%).
The funds have reached Catalonia through four main channels: direct grants from the Spanish government to Catalan entities (494 million), tenders won by Catalan entities from the central executive (4.605 billion), sectoral conferences (4.076 billion), and state tenders executed in Catalonia (1.005 billion).
Notably, 4.1 billion euros have been invested in research, development, and innovation (R&D&i), industry services, and the primary sector. Another 3.924 billion have been allocated to key infrastructures such as mobility, energy, water, environment, and digital connectivity. Finally, 1.320 billion are driving social and cultural development, including the social economy, education, employment, Catalan language and culture, sports, and healthcare.
