The Catalan Parliament has approved a new increase in the tourist tax that will take effect this April, just in time for the Easter holiday season.

The measure, supported by PSC, ERC, and Comuns, will raise the maximum fee from 3 euros to 6 euros per night for high-end accommodations. This includes five-star hotels, luxury campsites, and long-stay cruise ships across Catalonia, excluding the specific regulations already in place for Barcelona.
A key shift in this policy is how the revenue will be used. Instead of focusing solely on tourism promotion, local councils will now have the authority to invest the funds into public services such as street cleaning, security, and the preservation of local heritage sites.
