The vaccination campaign against flu and COVID-19 in Catalonia will commence on October 5th. The decision to continue the joint campaign is based on epidemiology, vaccine availability, vaccine effectiveness, and the healthcare system's resources. Initially, vaccination will target residents of care homes, individuals over 80 years old, pregnant women, children aged 6 months to 4 years, and healthcare and social-healthcare personnel.
The second phase of the campaign will begin on October 26th, when vaccination with prior appointment will be available to other groups. These include the general population over 60, individuals with risk factors, and essential service workers. Subsequently, starting November 16th, the third phase will commence, allowing walk-in vaccinations at primary care centers for these same groups.
To book an appointment for vaccination, individuals can primarily use La Meva Salut, navigating to the ‘Cites’ section, selecting ‘Cites i consultes d’atenció primària’, and then choosing ‘Vacunació’. Alternatively, appointments can be made via the scheduling website citasalut.gencat.cat or by directly contacting the relevant primary care center (CAP).
The vaccination campaign will enhance its presence in healthcare facilities. For the third consecutive year, the agreement with the Consell de Col·legis Farmacèutics de Catalunya (Council of Pharmaceutical Colleges of Catalonia) will be maintained to promote vaccination recommendations. Efforts will also be made to engage healthcare professionals through coordination with professional colleges and scientific societies.
Furthermore, the campaign's reach will be extended to the workplace through occupational risk prevention services. Specific actions will be promoted for the teaching community in collaboration with the Departament d’Educació (Department of Education), and the participation of local councils and entities in promoting vaccination will be strengthened.
The vaccines used for the 2026-2027 season will be adapted to the circulating strains of both influenza and COVID-19. According to the recommendations of the World Health Organization, the three components of the trivalent flu vaccines have been updated compared to the previous season. The European Medicines Agency has recommended updating the antigenic composition of authorized COVID-19 vaccines with the XFG variant of SARS-CoV-2 for the 2026-2027 campaign.
