Barcelona Mayor Jaume Collboni has announced that Ciutat Meridiana, in the Nou Barris district, is the chosen area for the second call of the Generalitat's Neighborhood Plan, with a proposed investment of 25 million euros.

The Barcelona City Council has designated the neighborhood of Ciutat Meridiana, located in Nou Barris, as a candidate for the second call of the Generalitat de Catalunya's Neighborhood Plan. According to Mayor Jaume Collboni, it is one of the most vulnerable neighborhoods in the city. The proposal includes 32 actions already planned by the council, which could be accelerated thanks to this initiative, with a total investment of 25 million euros, contributed equally by the Generalitat and the City Council.
The plan, set to begin in January 2027 and initially last five years with a possible extension, aims to be a "historic boost" for the neighborhood. The objective is to ensure the city progresses equitably, preventing "neighborhoods from being left behind." The deadline for submitting Neighborhood Plan candidacies is this Friday, July 17, with winning proposals expected to be announced in the fall.
Proposed actions include the completion of the renovation of interior block spaces, intervening in 30,000 m² of public space to improve accessibility and green areas, particularly in steep areas. Community facilities planned for the Parc de l'Aqüeducte will also be promoted, including project drafting and urban planning management.
The plan also includes the installation of up to 10 new elevators in the neighborhood, with an investment of 1 million euros. Furthermore, aid is foreseen for the interior renovation of homes for vulnerable residents, as well as for updating lighting and appliances. In relation to climate change, shaded areas will be increased by 1,200 m² in Plaça del Metro and the Parc de l'Aqüeducte, trees will be planted, water features installed, and access to Parc de Collserola improved.
In the social sphere, the proposal includes actions aimed at adolescents and young people, such as outdoor sports practice areas accompanied by a socio-educational program to promote coexistence, a sense of belonging, and prevent risky behaviors.
