The Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, has justified his decision to proceed with the institutional mission to Kyiv, despite the increase in hostilities. From Warsaw, where he met with his counterpart Rafal Trzaskowski, Collboni reiterated the importance of maintaining support for the Ukrainian capital. "What Russia's current offensive with increased attacks aims to do is isolate the city of Kyiv and make us Europeans loosen our support, but what they will achieve is exactly the opposite," he stated.
The visit to Kyiv will include Collboni's participation in an extraordinary plenary session convened by the city's City Council to denounce the escalation of violence by Russia. During the session, the Mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, and Collboni will sign a new collaboration agreement to intensify the relationship between the two cities, particularly in the humanitarian field.
Subsequently, vehicles and equipment from Firefighters sent from Barcelona will be delivered to representatives of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES). This action underscores Barcelona's commitment to the Ukrainian city during a critical time.
The day in Warsaw also included a bilateral meeting with Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski, where the shared challenge of the housing emergency in European cities was discussed. Both mayors have agreed to promote a common front to demand a more active role for cities in EU governance from European institutions and direct access to community funds for housing.
