The plenary session of the Cornellà de Llobregat City Council has approved an institutional declaration emphasizing dialogue, respect, and coexistence, following racist chants recorded during a football match at the RCDE Stadium on March 31.
The initiative, presented by the mayor, received support from the PSC, Cornellà En Comú Podem, and ERC-EUiA, while the PP and Vox voted against it. This motion is considered an
“
"act of justice and recognition for the citizens of Cornellà, an inclusive city with strong community roots based on dialogue, coexistence, and resilience."
The council also expressed its discomfort with the media coverage that, in some cases,
“
"generically linked the city's name to the events that occurred."
The declaration advocates for a democracy that does not discriminate based on origin and guarantees dignity, justice, and opportunities for everyone. Furthermore, it rejects the use of economic difficulties or social frustration to target the most vulnerable.
“
"In the face of division, more dialogue is needed; in the face of hatred, more coexistence; in the face of exclusion, more equality; in the face of fear, more democracy."
