Councilor Lluís Rabell has submitted his resignation from the Barcelona City Council, effective in the February plenary session, citing health reasons, and will be replaced by Sara Belbeida.

Rabell, born in Barcelona in 1954, was number 7 on the electoral list led by Mayor Jaume Collboni in May 2023. This is not the first time the councilor has had to step away from his duties for medical reasons.
Previously, Lluís Rabell temporarily left the municipal government between November 2023 and March 2024 to receive treatment for a tumor detected during a routine check-up, according to information provided by the Consistory.
During his tenure, Rabell was responsible for several key areas of the Barcelona council, including the Neighborhood Plan (Pla de Barris), Participation and Democratic Innovation, Education, Elderly People, Democratic Memory, and the management of the Horta-Guinardó district.
With his resignation, Sara Belbeida, who was number 12 on the socialist electoral list and currently served as Commissioner for Citizen Relations and Cultural and Religious Diversity, will become a councilor and take over the portfolios previously managed by Rabell.
