The Barcelona City Council and the Mossos d'Esquadra confirmed this Friday a 6.1% decrease in crimes across the city due to a new strategy targeting repeat offenders.

The police offensive, known as the Kanpai plan, has significantly reduced crime in Barcelona. According to data from the Local Security Board, robberies involving force have dropped by 19.8%, while thefts have decreased by 7.6%.

"Criminals must know that we are going to make it harder for them."

Despite the positive trend in robberies, drug trafficking cases rose by 26.8% due to increased police activity, resulting in the dismantling of 165 sales points and the recovery of 57 drug flats, mostly in the Ciutat Vella district.
