Two dead in Barcelona crash during police chase

Two people died on Sunday morning in a serious traffic accident in Barcelona's Poblenou neighborhood. The incident occurred when a vehicle fleeing police collided with another car stopped at a traffic light.

The incident took place around 09:00 AM at the intersection of Pallars and Fluvià streets. According to Mossos d'Esquadra sources, police were alerted to a vehicle driving recklessly, swerving erratically and mounting pavements.
A Mossos patrol attempted to stop the offending driver, but they ignored the signals and initiated a high-speed chase. The fleeing vehicle drove in the wrong direction and collided head-on with a car stopped at a traffic light.
The impact was severe, leaving both vehicles destroyed, with one overturned. Barcelona Firefighters had to extricate three people trapped in the wreckage. Tragically, two of them died at the scene, while a third sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital by SEM.
The two deceased were the drivers of their respective vehicles. The Traffic Accident Unit of the Guardia Urbana attended the scene to compile the report and investigate the exact causes of the crash. With these two fatalities, eight people have now lost their lives in traffic accidents in Barcelona in 2026.
