Throughout June, the Tecla Sala Library transforms into a blues venue with the new edition of the ‘Blues x Tu’ cycle. This initiative, spearheaded by the Barcelona Blues Society and the library itself, aims to introduce this musical style, originating from the African American communities of the 19th-century United States, to the residents of L'Hospitalet.
The president of the Barcelona Blues Society, Roser Infiesta, emphasizes that blues is often mistakenly perceived as sad music, when in reality it is "fun, rhythmic, and makes you dance." Therefore, the organization strives to share the history and essence of this genre.
This year's cycle commemorates the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the blues collection at the Tecla Sala Library. This edition's talks have focused on the relationship between blues and the publishing world. Last Wednesday, June 10th, illustrator and pianist August Tharrats reviewed his career and the history of comics and animation, highlighting the connections with musical styles like blues and jazz. Tharrats pointed out the synergy between animated film, comics, and music, stating that "making music also has many points of relation with drawing."
Tharrats' talk was accompanied musically by Marc Ferrer on piano and Marian Barahona as vocalist. The cycle will conclude next Wednesday, June 17th, with a talk on the explosion of British blues in the 1960s, presented by musicologist and writer Ricard Gil, with musical contributions from Nuria Almazán, Pep Rius, and Tota Blues. This year features three talks, as the last Wednesday of June falls on the Sant Joan holiday.
