The managing consortium of the future Clínic-UB Health Campus has approved the purchase of land on the Diagonal for 135 million euros, with L3 metro extension works scheduled to begin in the second half of 2028.

The constitution of the consortium, integrated by eight institutions, marks the beginning of the Eix Diagonal Salut project, which will be a new hospital, university, and research complex. The Generalitat has greenlit the purchase of the Universitat de Barcelona (UB) land on the Diagonal for a value of 135 million euros.
If the established timeline is met, the macro-project will be completed and operational by 2035, with an estimated total investment of 1.7 billion euros. This operation is fundamental for the development of the new health and knowledge hub.
In parallel, a significant transformation of mobility is planned. The Generalitat announced that the extension works for the L3 metro line and the urbanization of the campus surroundings will begin in the second half of 2028. This expansion, with a budget of 500 million euros, is framed within the Master Plan for Infrastructures of the Barcelona Metropolitan Region 2021-2030.
The 2.5-kilometer extension from Zona Universitària will result in two new stations: Sant Joan de Déu-Finestrelles, near the Hospital de Sant Joan de Déu in Esplugues, and Esplugues-Centre, which will be the new final station of the first phase, located in Plaça de Santa Magdalena. The L3 extension is expected to enter service coinciding with the inauguration of the campus in 2035.
