The Minister of Justice and Relations with the Courts, Félix Bolaños, today announced the call for 700 new positions for judges and prosecutors. This measure, initially announced yesterday, Sunday, via the social network X, was published today in the Official State Gazette (BOE). The announcement comes during a crucial week for those associated with the PSOE and the Spanish government, marked by several judicial summonses.
Bolaños highlighted that this is the "largest call in history" and detailed that the competitive examination, scheduled to begin in October, will fill 375 judge positions and 200 prosecutor positions. In parallel, the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) has announced 125 positions for magistrates, intended for highly competent legal professionals with over ten years of experience. The minister described this initiative as "the greatest transformation of justice in decades".
The call for judicial positions occurs amidst a period of judicial scrutiny for the government. This week, several figures close to the executive have been summoned or are scheduled to appear before courts and official bodies. These include the Director General of the Civil Guard, who will appear before the Senate on Tuesday, following meetings with former socialist militant Leire Díez. On Wednesday and Thursday, the National Court judge José Luis Calama will question former Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero regarding alleged irregularities in the rescue of the airline Plus Ultra. Finally, on Friday, the State Attorney General will appear before the Senate after her department acknowledged meetings with individuals investigated in the Leire Díez case.
