The popular El Molino theater in Barcelona will permanently close its doors on June 30, following the managing company's decision to withdraw from the municipal concession.

The closure decision comes after Barcelona Events Musicals (BEM), the company that reopened the venue in 2024, announced its resignation from the concession obtained through a public tender. This news, initially reported by El Periódico, has been confirmed by company sources.
Until the closing date, the venue will continue to operate normally on weekends, offering shows. The last scheduled performance at El Molino will be on June 27.
The reasons behind this closure stem from problems encountered in recent months, primarily due to neighborhood complaints. These grievances necessitated soundproofing works at the venue and led to a reduction in the theater's operating hours, limiting it to weekend performances.
The El Molino theater, an emblematic space for cabaret enthusiasts, was inaugurated in 1898. It first closed in 1997 and was reopened in 2010. After a period of uncertain management, the Barcelona City Council acquired the building in 2021 and transferred its management to BEM in 2024. Since then, it has operated as a small-capacity venue, accommodating 250 spectators, offering live musical performances across various genres.
