The strong waves recorded during the Christmas holidays, specifically on Sant Esteve (Saint Stephen's Day), severely affected the Barca Maria beach in Badalona once again. The force of the sea washed away a significant portion of the sand closest to the Barca area.
This loss of sand has exposed a large number of rocks and, notably, the remains of ancient structures. These remnants may correspond to the old campsite that was located in this area of the Badalona coastline years ago.
This is not the first time this phenomenon has occurred. This sector of the beach is usually the one that presents the most constant and severe regression along the entire Badalona coast, with a much lower accumulation of sand than the rest of the shoreline.
The recurrence of this situation highlights the beach's fragility against storms and once again raises the urgent need for definitive structural solutions to protect this coastal stretch, which sees its width and quality reduced year after year.
