The Comuns have formalized their agreement on the Generalitat's regional budgets, securing the creation of a new directorate focused on 'housing discipline'. This pact, which will allow the Catalan Government to have its first accounts of the legislature, comes amid news of the dismantling of the Guardia Civil's Special Group for Underwater Activities (GEAS) base in l'Estartit, on the Costa Brava.
The budget negotiations have been marked by several staged events, including a second signing of the document at the Palau de la Generalitat. Catalan President Salvador Illa has thus secured the support of the Comuns, led by Jéssica Albiach, to approve accounts that will enable him to set priorities and execute projects without relying on additional credits. The Comuns have emphasized housing policies, achieving a commitment to invest 2.5 billion euros and promote a new law to convert offices and commercial spaces into protected housing. The new 'housing discipline' directorate will aim to enforce sanctions for legal non-compliance, supported by an expanded team of inspectors.
In parallel to the budget agreement, the Ministry of the Interior's decision to dismantle the GEAS base in l'Estartit has been revealed, a move described as a response to "political tolls" by the professional association Jucil. This decision is framed within a context of independence demands for the transfer of security competencies to the Generalitat. However, government sources have denied that this point was part of the agreements between the PSC, ERC, and the Comuns.
The report also covers internal reflections from Oriol Junqueras, leader of ERC, regarding his party's support for the socialist budgets. In an internal letter, Junqueras expresses "discomfort," "doubts," and "contradictions," while arguing that ERC's actions are based on Catalonia's interests rather than the party's "comfort." The potential political influence of Gabriel Rufián as a catalyst for a new left-wing alliance at the state level is also mentioned, drawing varied reactions from parties like Izquierda Unida, Más Madrid, and Podemos.
Finally, the investigation by the Mossos d'Esquadra into the death of Isak Andic, founder of Mango, is reported. According to investigation sources, his son, Jonathan Andic, allegedly took a route very similar to the one on the day of the fall days before the incident.
