The company Enrique Tomás has opened its first 'gastronomic kiosk' in the main hall of Barcelona's Sants station. This new space offers travelers the opportunity to enjoy snacks, sandwiches, and coffee, marking the first gastronomic opening since the start of the railway hub's renovation works.
The construction, which began in January 2025, has affected most of the station's 30 commercial and gastronomic establishments, with 25 having to temporarily close or terminate their contracts. Enrique Tomás has found in this kiosk a way to maintain its commercial presence while its main store remains closed, with no fixed reopening date.
Company sources describe this new format as a pioneering gastronomic 'pit-stop' in Spain, intended to complement their usual offerings. This kiosk, equipped with a coffee bar, a kitchen for snacks, and ham refrigerators, will remain operational beyond the completion of the works.
The comprehensive renovation of the station, one of Adif's most ambitious projects, is expected to see the first phase of works conclude around February 2028. This phase includes expanding the passenger hall by nearly 30% towards the Plaça dels Països Catalans.
Currently, only five establishments have remained open throughout the renovation: the McDonald's, a cafe near Plaça Joan Peiró, the Natura store, another cafe in the High-Speed train access area, and a bar within the Rodalies (commuter train) access zone.
