The Generalitat, through the Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM), will fully fund the tram infrastructure with an investment of 97 million euros. For its part, the Barcelona City Council will cover the remaining 99 million allocated to the area's urbanisation and the expansion of the Diagonal collector.
This agreement, which defines the responsibilities of each administration, will enable the tram connection between Verdaguer and Francesc Macià. The Barcelona council will be responsible for the redevelopment of Diagonal between Passeig de Sant Joan and Avinguda Sarrià, as well as the expansion of the collector between Girona and Calvet streets.
The ATM, in addition to the infrastructure and tram systems, will also be responsible for expanding the depots and adapting the trams to catenary-free tracks.
The works are estimated to last 40 months, plus periods for testing and trial runs. Once the remaining 2.2 kilometres of the connection are completed, the tram's demand is projected to reach 62 million annual trips, with an anticipated removal of 12,500 daily cars on weekdays. The journey between Glòries and Francesc Macià will be reduced to 15 minutes and will include three new stops: Diagonal-Cinc d’Oros, Balmes, and Casanova.
In parallel, the ATM council has approved the technical report responding to the objections for extending the Trambaix to the centre of Sant Feliu de Llobregat.
