The Secretary of State for Transport, José Antonio Santano, denied any wrongdoing this Tuesday in Barcelona regarding the removal of railway material from the Adamuz accident site.

Santano clarified that Adif acted under judicial authorization granted on January 27 to begin reconstruction works. He emphasized that the Civil Guard and the CIAF had already concluded their evidence collection on-site four days after the fatal crash.

"Thanks to Adif, these materials were moved to a maintenance building in Hornachuelos and have always been at the disposal of the court and police."

The materials, located up to 380 meters from the derailment point, were stored because they featured similar welds to those at the crash site. Officials stated that without this intervention, the pieces would have been destroyed as scrap metal during the urgent repair of the tracks.
