The initiative by Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) to celebrate the metro’s centenary has allowed for the recovery of five historical trains, including those from the 300 series (in service since 1924) and the 100 series (since 1926). These carriages, which circulated for over five decades, have been restored to display reproductions of mythical advertising signs, many of which belong to brands that have either disappeared or radically changed their image.
The Series 300 train, which inaugurated the first section of the Gran Metro, exhibits vertical posters for the Santa Eulalia store and Chocolate Amatller, the latter founded in Barcelona in 1797. Horizontal signs are also found above the windows for brands like Gallina Blanca (with the slogan “caldo en cubitos”), Letona, and Cacaolat, featuring its iconic corporate image.
Car 126 of the Series 100, known as a “rolling lounge” due to its modernist interior decoration, displays advertising for the Boira company, specializing in electrical appliances. Inside, reproductions of signs for Orion insecticides (“Por si las mocas”), Elibamer washing machines (“La lavadora de máxima garantia”), Tintes Iberia, and the historical lamb logo of Norit are visible.
Keep your ticket until the exit. The transport document, ticket or card must be presented to the employee who requests it. Keep it until leaving the bus or the metro enclosure.
Beyond the advertisements, the Series 100 car also retains original rectangular stickers with passenger warnings, sealed by Transports Municipals de Barcelona and F.C. Metropolità de Barcelona. One notice reminds users not to enter or exit after the whistle sounds, while another indicates that the penalty for traveling without a valid ticket was 1,000 pesetas.
