President Salvador Illa and Minister Olga Pané inaugurated the expansion of the surgical block at Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital in Badalona, a 29.6 million euro project that solidifies the center as a European benchmark.

The project, co-financed by European FEDER funds, allowed the hospital to incorporate six new high-tech operating rooms, bringing the total to 28. This modernization reinforces Germans Trias's position as a high-complexity center and a leader in robotic surgery.

"This center is a high-complexity hospital, one of the best in Catalonia, and boasts one of the best healthcare systems in Europe."

Salvador Illa · President of the Generalitat
Three of the new operating rooms form a pioneering robotics cluster, featuring three contiguous robots dedicated to minimally invasive surgery in specialties such as urology, gynecology, and general surgery. The other three incorporate advanced intraoperative imaging technology, such as CT and CBCT, enhancing precision in neurosurgery and traumatology.

"The 12.7 million euros of European funding made this expansion possible, exemplifying the impact of FEDER funds on the modernization of the Catalan healthcare system."

During the visit, President Illa also announced that the new endoscopy unit, opening in February, will feature the first respiratory endoscopy robot in Spain and the second in Europe. Furthermore, he reiterated that the Generalitat's budgets will prioritize healthcare with an investment of nearly 16 billion euros.
