British maestro Jonathan Nott was presented at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona this Friday as the new conductor of the Symphony Orchestra, starting his five-season contract next season.

Accompanied by artistic director Victor García de Gomar, Nott emphasized that his main goal is to establish a quick connection with the audience. He expressed his intention to lead through dialogue, considering himself 'another link in the chain' of the institution.

"My short-term goal is for us to fall in love in 30 minutes. Maybe it's 10 or 45. I don't want to break anything in this house."

Nott's debut leading the orchestra will be next April with the ballet Nijinsky by Neumeir, performed by the Hamburg Ballet. He will also conduct Wagner's Tetralogy next season, aiming to enhance the international profile of the Liceu.
The former conductor of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra stated that the proposal from the Liceu felt like a sign, feeling that 'a new home was waiting for me.' He praised the work of his predecessor, Josep Pons, who leaves after 14 years, acknowledging that replacing him is 'a great responsibility.'
