The name Julia has been the most chosen for newborns in Catalonia during 2025, according to official Idescat data.

Julia has established itself as the most frequent name for newborns in Catalonia during 2025, with 449 births, thus regaining the top position it previously held in 2022. This name has led the female ranking for nine years over the last two decades and has seen a slight increase of 53 babies compared to the previous year.
Sofia, which was the most popular name among girls in 2024, now ranks second with 427 newborns. Regarding male names, Biel has become the most chosen for the first time since the historical series began in 1997, with 378 births. Nil holds the second position with 375 newborns, while Marc, the most popular name for 25 years, returns to the top three.
Idescat data also reflects the general trend of declining birth rates. Two decades ago, the name Julia was chosen by approximately a thousand babies annually, a figure that has significantly decreased, highlighting the demographic shift.
