The Àngel Pestaña square in la Prosperitat has, as every July, become an artificial beach. The public space has been covered with tons of sand, altering its usual appearance and establishing itself as the neighborhood's central hub for the next three weeks. Workers have been busy leveling the surface and preparing it for the planned activities.
Morning activities are primarily geared towards children and families, featuring sand games and summer camps. In the afternoons, the artificial beach will serve as the venue for beach volleyball matches and training sessions. The schedule includes a youth tournament on July 3rd, a pairs tournament on July 4th, and the main event, a four-player team tournament on July 11th, which has already sold out its registrations and attracts participants from afar.
Beyond the sports competitions, Prospe Beach offers a space for open-air cultural activities. Cinema screenings and concerts have been scheduled. Additionally, on July 2nd, the Festa del Mig Any (Mid-Year Festival) will take place, a consolidated tradition that recreates the New Year's Eve celebration halfway through the year. The beach will bid farewell to the residents on July 17th and 18th with a foam party and a fire show.
The tradition of Prospe Beach dates back 41 years, originating from the idea of bringing the beach closer to the neighborhood. Initially, an existing lake in the square, next to the Casal de Barri (Neighborhood Center), was utilized. Over time, the initiative has become established, surviving square renovations, municipal aid cuts, and drought periods. For the neighborhood, it has become as significant a celebration as its main festival.
