The Barcelona municipal delegation traveled by train from Warsaw, coinciding on the journey with the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, who is also on an institutional trip to Ukraine. Upon arrival at Kyiv Central Station, Collboni emphasized that the mission's objective is to support the Ukrainian population in their effort to maintain daily life despite the conflict.
The mayor highlighted the resilience of Kyiv's citizens in the face of attempts to disrupt daily life and institutional functioning. "What we are doing is helping to demonstrate that daily life in the city of Kyiv is not being altered, that its institutions are functioning," he stated, emphasizing the renewal of the collaboration agreement.
Collboni thanked the Spanish embassy for their support during a mission that required extreme security precautions due to increased Russian attacks. He recalled Barcelona's historical commitment to a culture of peace and city diplomacy, referencing the previous mission to Sarajevo 30 years ago, and reaffirmed that "no European city under attack should be ignored or forgotten by other European cities."
Subsequently, at Kyiv City Hall, Collboni and Klitschko signed the new collaboration agreement, which expands existing exchange actions with new initiatives in areas such as energy resilience, accessibility, urban development, education, health, art, culture, transport, and public safety.
Since 2023, Kyiv has been a priority city within Barcelona's grant program for NGOs. The agreement also aims to foster contacts between civil society organizations from both cities to promote joint projects.
As a demonstration of this collaboration, the Fire Department material and vehicles from the latest convoy sent from Barcelona were handed over. The mayor's agenda continues today with his participation in an extraordinary plenary session of the Kyiv City Council.
