The award, presented by King Felipe VI at a ceremony in the Palau de Pedralbes, recognizes Curbelo's trajectory in fluid dynamics applied to geophysics. Her research spans fields such as the atmosphere, the ocean, and the Earth's interior.
Born in 1987 in the Canary Islands, Curbelo is currently a tenured professor at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and a researcher at the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica. She leads projects focused on understanding climate change.

In his speech, the King emphasized the importance of supporting scientific talent from institutions. For his part, the president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, highlighted the presence of more than 33,000 active researchers in Catalonia.
The National Research Awards for Young Researchers, convened annually by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, aim to foster scientific vocations and recognize the achievements of Spanish researchers in the early stages of their careers. Each award is endowed with 30,000 euros.
