The Mossos d’Esquadra have carried out identifications and confined a group of anti-fascist protesters to one end of Plaça de Sant Jaume in Barcelona. The square is completely sealed off with a dozen police vans.
This police operation is underway as supporters of Save Europe Act, a far-right and supremacist movement, are expected to arrive for a demonstration at 7:00 PM. In response, several anti-fascist groups had called for a gathering at 6:00 PM to confront them.
During checks, officers searched backpacks and confiscated some spray cans. The police operation involves approximately one hundred officers. So far, about thirty anti-fascist protesters have gathered, with more expected to arrive.
The situation has caused surprise among dozens of tourists observing the police deployment and the gathering in the central Barcelona square.
