Starting his journey at local clubs like Mercantil and later Espanyol, Romero joined Real Madrid in 1995. For twenty years, he was the face of the club's youth recruitment in Catalonia, Aragon, and the Balearic Islands, identifying players such as Kiko Casilla and Mariano Diaz.
“"Out of every hundred players who join a big club, fewer than ten reach professional football."
Romero shared a remarkable anecdote about meeting Leo Messi and his agent in Premià. Despite interest from the player's camp, Real Madrid declined to move forward to avoid further institutional tension with FC Barcelona following the controversial Figo transfer. He also recalled a moment when Xavi Hernandez's father offered the midfielder to Madrid due to a lack of playing time under Guardiola.
Today, Romero manages the Pirineus Cup, a massive youth tournament featuring 360 clubs across Spain, Andorra, and France. Although he left Real Madrid in 2015, he remains an active observer of the game, keeping detailed notes on new talents.
