The service on Rodalies de Catalunya lines R2, R2 North, and R11 is currently suspended without an estimated recovery date due to a sinkhole that occurred this Wednesday during track-sinking works in Montcada i Reixac.
For lines R2 and R2 North, trains are operating between Montcada i Reixac and Maçanet-Massanes, and between Sant Andreu and the Airport/Castelldefels stations. To connect with Barcelona, passengers must transfer at the Montcada i Reixac-Manresa station, approximately 300 meters away, and take an R4 line train.
Regarding line R11, service is maintained between Granollers Centre and the stations of Portbou and Cervera de la Marenda. The southern section, between Sant Andreu and the Airport/Castelldefels, must be covered by R2 and R2 North trains. An alternative bus service has been arranged between Granollers Centre and Sant Andreu, with buses arriving and departing from Plaça Ramon Riera in Barcelona. Renfe has increased capacity on Avant services between Figueres-Vilafant, Girona, and Barcelona-Sants.
The incident occurred in the Vallbona neighborhood (Nou Barris district, Barcelona), bordering Montcada i Reixac, when a wall of a construction well collapsed, creating a large sinkhole that engulfed a crane. The councilor for Nou Barris, Xavier Marcé, suggested that the presence of groundwater from the Besòs area might have caused the landslip. Water from the Rec Comtal that was entering the well has been diverted, and the sinkhole is being filled with concrete.
Adif is inspecting properties within a 40 to 50-meter radius of the incident site to rule out any structural damage and ensure residents' peace of mind, despite initial assurances that there were no affected homes.
