The man's death, known to the Arrels Fundació since 2021, occurred non-violently in the Ciutat Vella neighborhood, the organization confirmed. The victim, named Eusebio, usually moved around the Les Corts area.
This is the second death of a homeless person in just 24 hours, after another man died on Tuesday in Badalona.
The alert regarding the death, which took place around one in the morning, was issued by the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM). The Mossos d'Esquadra have opened an investigation to determine the exact causes of death, which will be confirmed by the autopsy.
This tragic death occurs in the context of the cold wave affecting the country. The night from Tuesday to Wednesday was the coldest in the last three years, with temperatures that the Observatori Fabra had not registered since 2018.
The Arrels Fundació warned that, unfortunately, this marks the sixth death of a homeless person on the streets of Barcelona in the last five weeks, underscoring the severity of the social emergency.
