This edition will allow free access to emblematic spaces such as the Castell de Montjuïc, which recently inaugurated a new interpretation center, the renovated facilities of the Casa de l'Aigua and Fabra i Coats, or the Royal Monastery of Pedralbes, which celebrates its 700th anniversary.
Nearly a hundred cultural institutions in the Barcelona metropolitan area will open their doors during the night, while in the rest of the Catalan territory, almost two hundred activities have been scheduled throughout the weekend. Museums will be open from 7:00 PM until 1:00 AM.
Municipalities such as Badalona, Cornellà de Llobregat, Esplugues de Llobregat, l'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Sant Adrià de Besòs, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, and Sant Joan Despí, in addition to the capital, are participating in this initiative. The offerings include concerts, theatrical performances, immersive experiences, archaeological routes, and workshops for all ages.
Among this year's novelties are the first-time opening during this event of the Gran Hotel Barcino in Barcelona and the Cultural Center La Bòbila and La Florida 6.0 in l'Hospitalet de Llobregat. The International Museum Day, officially celebrated on Monday, May 18, is extended in Catalonia for three days to raise awareness about the importance of museums in social development.
Museums Uniting a Divided World
The theme of this edition, "Museums Uniting a Divided World," highlights the role of museums as bridges to overcome cultural, social, and geopolitical divisions. 185 activities have been organized in sixty municipalities, with proposals such as a paleoanthropology workshop at the Sabadell History Museum, a solar eclipse recreation at the Tarragona Port Museum, or a show about sleep at the Lleida Museum.
