Residents of the Vila Olímpica have initiated legal action against the state-owned company that owns the Centre de la Vila in Barcelona to report serious structural deficiencies in the property.

The lawsuit, filed this week, points to a lack of maintenance and persistent water leakage problems in the underground parking lot. According to residents, these deficiencies affect both the building's structural elements and the homes located above the shopping complex, situated between Avinguda Icària and the streets of Rosa Sensat, Arquitecte Sert, and Salvador Espriu.
The estimated cost to repair the damage and improve the drainage system amounts to three million euros. The situation is complicated by the public auction of the asset, scheduled for June 10, with a starting price of 25.7 million euros. The filing of this legal action must be communicated to any future buyer interested in acquiring the parking lot, the gallery, and the commercial premises.
The center, opened in 1996, has suffered a progressive decline in commercial activity, going from more than eighty businesses to about a dozen today. The recent closure of cinemas and a nursery school has accentuated the degradation of the space. Although public purchase of the property was considered in the past, the municipal government has ultimately ruled out the operation due to the high cost that the acquisition and subsequent comprehensive rehabilitation of the facilities would entail.
