The automotive company Nissan has announced an Employment Regulation File (ERE) that will affect 211 workers in Catalonia, representing almost 40% of its current workforce in the region.
This decision, communicated to the unions, will impact the three centers the brand maintains in Catalonia. The spare parts center in El Prat will be the most affected, with 110 of its 122 employees included in the ERE, accounting for 90% of its staff. Unions express concern about a potential future closure of these facilities.
Additionally, the technical center in Barcelona and the functional areas center in El Prat will also experience cuts, with 86 and 15 departures respectively, affecting approximately a quarter of their staff. This adjustment is part of a global restructuring plan by Nissan, aiming to adapt its size to the current market situation and reduce costs.
“
"It is a new irresponsibility of Nissan's management towards Barcelona, Catalonia, and Spain. It makes no sense; we already agreed to an ERE years ago to ensure viability, and now they are telling us again that they need a restructuring."
The company justifies the file due to economic, productive, and organizational reasons, and it is part of a plan for 900 layoffs at a European level. Company sources indicate the need to adapt to its current market situation, with a transformation plan seeking to reverse estimated losses of almost 3 billion euros for the current fiscal year.
The unions, including Sigen-Usoc, UGT, and CC.OO., have rejected the start of the consultation period, citing formal procedural defects. They have announced mobilizations for the coming days, including an indefinite strike at the El Prat spare parts center. The next meeting between unions and Nissan, mediated by Treball, is scheduled for Thursday, May 14.

"We will continue to defend the continuity of work for all those affected by the file."
