A 46-year-old woman died in Barcelona this February 2026 due to severe winds caused by Storm Nils, which left more than 80 people injured across the region.

Storm Nils brought historic winds to Catalonia, with gusts exceeding 100 km/h in the metropolitan area. The victim passed away at Vall d'Hebron Hospital after part of a roof collapsed on her in an industrial building in Barcelona.
In Barcelona, wind speeds reached 105 km/h at the port. El Prat Airport was forced to cancel 101 flights, and emergency services responded to nearly 4,000 calls related to fallen trees and damaged infrastructure.

"When we woke up and saw that some areas were clearly not under red alert, it became clear we need a more surgical approach."
