A Barcelona judge has ordered the provisional imprisonment of a 42-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman for the alleged sexual assault and habitual mistreatment of their one-month-old infant.

The High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) confirmed the charges, which include very serious injuries. This incident highlights the Protocol for Action Against Child and Adolescent Maltreatment, a Catalan Government guideline that mandates healthcare workers to report any suspicion of abuse.
Under this protocol, professionals at Primary Care Centers (CAP) and hospitals must monitor not only physical injuries but also parental behavior and family context. For infants, any trauma or bruising is considered a critical red flag that requires immediate registration in the RUMI database.

"All cases of suspicion or certainty must be registered in RUMI, and judicial communication is a legal obligation for healthcare professionals."
