With self-taught roots and a studio located in the old stable of her family home in Das, the artist Penélope Clot has recently been included in the promotion plan for artisans and creators of the Cadí Moixeró Natural Park. This initiative seeks to publicize the products and work carried out in the Cerdanya and Cadí area, allowing Clot to showcase her work beyond her usual environment.
Born in 1975, Penélope Clot began her artistic training at the Escola Massana in Barcelona, where she studied the art of Japanese lacquer between 2000 and 2001, and engraving between 2002 and 2003. She later continued at the Escola Da Vinci in Barcelona, studying drawing and perspective between 2005 and 2006. Despite this academic foundation, the artist considers herself self-taught, a key aspect of her creative process.
“"When something impassions you, worries you, and is the engine of your life, you cannot do anything but constantly train yourself."
The works of Penélope Clot are distinguished by the use of superimposed layers, transparencies, geometric compositions, and landscape evocations that reflect the Cerdanya environment. Her work includes a wide variety of techniques and materials, ranging from traditional painting to waxes, enamels, plaster, and the use of techniques like cracking and aging, which provide unique depth to each piece.
Before fully dedicating herself to creation, Clot began her professional career in 1997 restoring antique furniture and artworks. This task provided her with a deep knowledge of traditional techniques and materials, directly influencing her own artistic production. Her studio, facing south, occupies the old stable of her great-grandparents' house in Das, a historic space that serves as a creative laboratory.
