The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) has updated the situation of African Swine Fever (ASF) in wild boar in Catalonia. Since the previous communication, five new cases have been detected from carcass remains found in the natural environment. Three of the cases correspond to the municipality of Barcelona and two to Molins de Rei, all located within restricted zone II.
With this update, the cumulative total reaches 70 notified outbreaks and 391 positive wild boar. Cases have been detected in 13 municipalities, including Cerdanyola del Vallès, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Terrassa, Rubí, Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Sant Just Desvern, Sabadell, el Papiol, Castellbisbal, and Esplugues de Llobregat. In parallel, 12,287 animals have been analyzed with negative results.
Authorities continue to intensify the search for wild boar carcasses and actions to reduce their population, as well as reinforcing isolation barriers. Regarding pig farms in restricted zones, biosecurity measures are being inspected. No positive cases have been detected in domestic pigs, and most farms in zone II are currently empty.
The MAPA reminds the public of the need to exercise extreme caution with biosecurity measures and to report any suspicions to the Official Veterinary Services. ASF is not a zoonosis and does not affect humans.
