Less than two weeks before Pope Leo XIV's visit to Barcelona, new details have emerged about the central event to be held at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Montjuïc on Tuesday, June 9. According to sources from the Archdiocese of Tarragona, some young Christians will have a privileged space in the center of the pitch, allowing unprecedented proximity to the pontiff during the liturgy.
The organization has distributed hundreds of tickets to the different dioceses of Catalonia, as a welcome gesture for the first papal trip to Catalan lands in nearly 16 years. Although tickets sold out quickly online, the ecclesiastical divisions have managed to reserve seats. The Archdiocese of Tarragona, for example, has handled around 300 tickets, as confirmed by Marcel Pallejà, diocesan coordinator of pastoral care and formation.
Adelina Murillo, diocesan delegate for Youth of the Archdiocese of Tarragona, has detailed that a dozen tickets have been allocated to young people who will witness the event from an exclusive area in the center of the stadium. These young people, mostly adolescents between 16 and 20 years old, will occupy a section of the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys itself, close to where Pope Leo XIV will be located. Murillo indicated that they will likely have to stand to optimize space.
Murillo emphasized that the true privilege will not be the physical location, but the participation in a historic event and the opportunity to share a prayer with the pontiff. The delegate also commented on the success of young people in obtaining tickets, comparing it to the demand for large-scale concerts.
The Tarragona delegation will travel to Barcelona on June 9 with six buses for approximately 350 people, returning in the early morning. Pallejà highlighted the logistical importance of the organization in facilitating the faithful's travel, considering the event a special union of history and faith.
