The Vatican has confirmed that Pope Leo XIV will visit Barcelona on June 10, 2026, to officially inaugurate the Tower of Jesus at the Sagrada Família.

The Holy See ratified the dates for the pontiff's apostolic journey to Spain, scheduled from June 6 to 12. The visit to the Catalan capital on June 10 aligns with the centenary of Antoni Gaudí's death and the completion of the basilica's tallest spire.

"It is a joy and we thank the Pope for inaugurating the Tower of Jesus Christ, which is the largest of all the churches in the world."

Joan Josep Omella · Cardinal Archbishop of Barcelona
Cardinal Joan Josep Omella confirmed that the Pope's itinerary includes Madrid and the Canary Islands. In Barcelona, the Pope will celebrate a special mass and bless the new tower. Salvador Illa, President of the Generalitat, welcomed the news and thanked the pontiff for the visit.
The Spanish Episcopal Conference has established a local committee in Barcelona, led by Bishop David Abadías, to manage the logistics and liturgical aspects of the event at the Sagrada Família.
