This new green space, located on Pintor Alsamora street, responds to a long-standing neighborhood demand to transform the area into a large green corridor. The initiative was one of the projects selected in the participatory budgets of the 2020-2024 edition.
The works, which began a year ago, involved an initial municipal investment of 1.4 million euros. This amount was increased by more than 200,000 euros, reaching a final total of 1.62 million euros, to coordinate with the rehabilitation and consolidation of the wall of the Sant Andreu cemetery, ensuring its safety.
The new urban gardens of the Can Valent Agrarian Park will replace those that have been cultivated for a decade next to the Can Valent farmhouse. This relocation will allow pedestrian access in a second phase of the green corridor, where the old gardens were an obstacle. The new gardens are organized on platforms adapted to the terrain's unevenness and include storage spaces, accessible toilets, work surfaces, and areas for meetings and activities. The project also integrates sustainability measures, such as water retention systems and composters.
One of the key requests from residents was the creation of shaded areas. For this reason, various species of fruit trees have been planted, and a pergola has been installed within the urban garden enclosure, which will serve as a climatic refuge and help combat the heat island effect. A central path connects the two entrances to the park.
The Can Valent Agrarian Park is the first phase of a larger project that seeks to completely eliminate the provisional parking lot and reclaim the land as an urban garden. The second phase of redevelopment, with the executive project already approved, will follow the same philosophy of greenery, shade, and resting areas, with community and play uses. The municipal forecast is to start these works in September.
Once the gardens near the Can Valent farmhouse are removed, the new green axis will connect the Can Dragó Sports Park with the Jardins d'Alfàbia square, facilitating a more pleasant walk towards the Nou Barris Central Park and Collserola. This connection will include and cross part of the old Damm football field, which will also have sports and green area uses, with the aim of creating an ecological and urban biodiversity corridor.
