The march, which started at 12:15 PM at the monument to Rafael Casanova on Ronda de Sant Pere, carried the slogan 'Prou! Única via, Independència' (Enough! Only Way, Independence). Organizers claimed that years of disinvestment by the Spanish State in the Catalan rail network necessitate independence as the only viable solution.
“"It is the definitive sign that we have had enough of the humiliations that the Spanish state continually imposes on our structures."
Attendance figures varied widely: the organizing bodies claimed 30,000 people participated, while the Barcelona City Police (Guàrdia Urbana) estimated the crowd at 8,000. The route passed through Urquinaona and Via Laietana before concluding at Plaça Sant Jaume.
Lluís Llach, president of the ANC, stated he was very satisfied with the turnout, insisting that Catalonia suffers from “colonial treatment” and that the poor state of the rail infrastructure clearly demonstrates this lack of investment.
The protest coincided with a second march scheduled for the afternoon, organized by user platforms. The ANC and the Consell accused these groups of attempting to “counter-program” their earlier mobilization.
