The protesters, including members of the Plataforma per al Transport Públic and other neighborhood associations, displayed banners to criticize what they consider an exclusive service for tourists. According to the organizers, the new rail connection does not address the real mobility needs of the citizens of the Barcelona metropolitan area.
A key point of the criticism is the saturation of the Passeig de Gràcia tunnel. The groups warn that the increased frequency brought by the new line could collapse a rail section already operating at its capacity limit, severely affecting lines such as the R2Nord, R2Sud, and various regional services.
“"The Passeig de Gràcia tunnel should not be saturated as it is already at its capacity limit."
The platforms propose that, instead of creating a segregated service, the trains should be integrated into the conventional Rodalies lines to improve reliability and frequency for all users. They also denounced that this is the only network expansion carried out in recent decades, which they consider an unfair prioritization of tourism over the daily needs of residents.
