Queen Belluga was unable to debut her new dress this February in Barcelona following the cancellation of the Arribo ceremony due to the severe winds of storm Nils.

After 14 years with the same design, the Barcelona Carnival monarch was set to wear a contemporary creation by Marcel Bofill and Nahoko Maeshima from Maru-Shima studio. The tailors, trained at Cirque du Soleil, spent five months crafting a piece inspired by Mediterranean colors rather than traditional Venetian styles.

"We wanted to escape the aesthetic clichés of Carnival, such as Venetian masks and Victorian hairstyles."

The Barcelona Institute of Culture (ICUB) confirmed that the production, featuring 24 circus artists, will be saved for the 2027 edition. Actress Emma Bassas, who portrays the queen, will have to wait twelve months to showcase the new wardrobe.
