The Sagrada Família basilica in Barcelona reached its architectural zenith this February 20, 2026, with the final placement of the monumental cross atop the Jesus Tower.

At exactly 11:00 AM, the 13-ton three-dimensional cross was secured, bringing the temple to its final height of 172.5 meters. This milestone occurs 144 years after the first stone was laid. The tower, designed by Antoni Gaudí, now stands as the tallest point in the city's skyline, featuring a glass structure that will open as a viewpoint in 2027.
The cross itself is a massive 17-meter structure decorated with trencadís mosaics and Latin inscriptions. The artistic elements, including the Agnus Dei by Andrea Mastrovito, are currently highlighted in an exhibition at the Casa de l'Almoina until June 9. The official inauguration of the tower's lighting system is scheduled for this coming June.
