Approximately 8,000 people will follow Pope Leo XIV's visit to the Sagrada Familia live on June 10th, coinciding with the centenary of Antoni Gaudí's death.

The Sagrada Familia is preparing to host around 8,000 people for the visit of Pope Leo XIV, scheduled for June 10th. According to Xavier Martínez, general director of the basilica's board, about 4,000 will be inside the temple, while the remaining 4,000 will be able to follow the eucharist and the blessing of the tower of Jesus via screens installed in Plaça d'Antoni Gaudí.
This date marks the centenary of the death of Antoni Gaudí, who was tragically killed in Barcelona. Commemorative events, which began last October, will extend until the end of 2026. The total cost for these events is estimated at around 3.2 million euros, with 300,000 euros allocated for the setup of the blessing and inauguration of the tower of Jesus, funded by collaborating companies.
The papal visit, taking place on June 9th and 10th, also includes a large-scale event at the Estadi Olímpic de Montjuïc. The free use of this facility by BSM, the municipal management company, has sparked political debate, as it represents a waiver of 78,000 euros, as explained by deputy mayor and BSM president, Laia Bonet. The Pope will also visit Montserrat, the Brians prison, and the parish of Sant Agustí del Raval.
The blessing and inauguration of the tower of Jesus will be the central event of Gaudí's centenary, featuring a eucharist in the basilica and an outdoor blessing presided over by the pontiff. Approximately 800 singers are expected to participate in the mass. Of the 8,000 attendees, 4,200 will be by invitation distributed among parishes and churches, with the remainder reserved for ecclesiastical officials and authorities, including the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, and the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez.
The event will be broadcast by 3Cat, TVE, and betevé, as well as streamed online and promoted on social media. A total of 1,600 media professionals have confirmed their accreditation. For security and protocol reasons, the organization, involving the City Council and the Mossos d'Esquadra, has not yet detailed the access points or the exact route for the Pope to the Sagrada Familia, given the high level of public anticipation.
