Application of industrial adhesive in the construction of the Sagrada Familia.

The six central towers of the Sagrada Familia have been built using special adhesive products from Loctite, a technology that joins stone and steel to increase precision and speed.

The construction of the emblematic central towers of the Sagrada Familia has revealed a key component: the use of industrial adhesive products from Loctite. This technology, exclusively designed for Gaudí's work, allows the joining of tensioned stone panels with steel, significantly improving the precision and speed of the construction process.
Henkel, the manufacturer of Loctite, has highlighted the role of this adhesive, named Loctite EA 9497, as an "invisible hero" in the modular construction system. This collaboration, spanning over ten years, has included testing, validation, and specialized technical support, adapting to the variable planning of the works, financed by visitor contributions.
The adhesive technology not only facilitates the joining of stone and steel but also ensures the structure's durability against demanding environmental conditions. The proximity to the sea, Barcelona's high humidity, and metro vibrations require significant resistance. 24 tons of Loctite have been used for these towers.
This construction method has allowed processes to be accelerated up to ten times compared to traditional methods. The achieved bond can withstand loads equivalent to 100,000 people per square meter, an essential capacity for the stability of the Jesus Christ tower, the tallest in the complex.
21st-century innovation thus adapts to a project initiated over 140 years ago, respecting Gaudí's original vision. According to Adrian Orbea, president of Henkel Ibérica, the project demonstrates how collaboration and technology drive progress.

"The Sagrada Familia is an inspiring example of what can be achieved when an ambitious vision meets technological expertise. This project highlights how innovation and collaboration continue to drive progress."
