Severe winds hit Catalonia with gusts reaching 167 km/h

Fifteen weather stations exceed 100 km/h during a morning of intense windstorms across the region.

The Meteocat weather service recorded wind gusts exceeding 100 km/h at fifteen stations across Catalonia this Thursday, peaking at 167 km/h in Puig Sesolles.

The windstorm has been particularly fierce during the morning of Thursday, February 12th. Puig Sesolles in the Montseny range recorded the highest speed at 167 km/h. Other areas like Portbou reached 120 km/h, and Espot in the Pyrenees saw gusts of 138,6 km/h.

"It is the record for this station since it was installed in 2011."

In Barcelona, the Raval neighborhood recorded 87,1 km/h, the highest in 15 years. The Port of Barcelona set an all-time record for the station with 105,1 km/h. The storm also affected the Ebre region and the metropolitan area with significant intensity.
