The Gremi Empresarial d’Ascensoristes de Catalunya has warned about the lack of qualified labor, a situation exacerbated by the new safety regulations coming into force in July 2024. It is estimated that approximately three out of four elevators will need to be adapted to these new requirements.
“"Inspections have seen a very considerable qualitative leap, and criteria previously considered minor are now marked as serious."
This regulatory update has significantly raised safety standards, transforming what were once minor deficiencies into serious problems. This implies a greater workload for companies, as more corrections and adjustments must be made to elevators to comply with current legislation.
The Col·legi d’Administradors de Finques de Barcelona-Lleida has confirmed that neighborhood communities are increasingly requesting services from elevator companies. This situation means that, in some cases, technicians take longer to resolve incidents, especially minor repairs, which are often relegated to a secondary priority compared to more complex operations.
“"The workers they have are perhaps the same, they are not expanding staff."
Although isolated cases of component or material shortages have been reported, the guild assures that these situations are anecdotal and do not represent a widespread problem in the sector.
